FAQs

Where was your save-the-date photo taken?

Our talented friend Mia Tran shot the photo at Warren Place, a secluded mews dwelling in Cobble Hill in Brooklyn (it’s located here, if you would like to visit yourself). The buildings inside are “Workingmen’s Cottages,” built in 1878 as effectively one of the nation’s first middle-income housing projects. They’re not so middle-income anymore.

Can I bring the kids?

We love kids, but due to budget and space limitations, we will be having an "adults only" reception. (Don’t worry, it’s nothing dirty.) The only children attending will be close family members. If anyone needs assistance in making arrangements for child-care, please let us know.

How did Boris propose?

Badly. The February day dawned relatively balmy, perfect weather for a proposal in a strategically selected Central Park pagoda. Then the temperature dropped about 30 degrees and the wind whipped up. Boris wound up with his fancy pants sinking into mud, holding up a ring to Jamie behind a rock, where they were hiding from tourists. He’d like to point out, though, that afterward they went to a Chinese banquet hall, followed by a performance of “Nixon in China” at the Met. Isn’t it all about what happens after the proposal, anyway?

What's the wedding attire?

Technically it’s semi-formal, but you should wear whatever makes you happy. We want you to be happy.

Where are you going on your honeymoon?

We're heading to Portugal. If you have any tips, please let us know!

Isn’t Boris’s sister getting married too?

Indeed she is. Robin will marry Matthew Baumgart on June 16th at the Red Mill in Clinton, NJ. For more on her wedding, head over here.

Do you have a theme?

No. We don’t really go in for “hobo chic” or “roaring twenties,” compelling as those may be. The day will, however, reflect the things we consider important. Our ceremony will highlight the centrality of family in our lives as well as the sustenance we find in books and art—hence the ceremony location, a gallery-bookstore. There will be a few travel-related elements: We like that too. The food will be delicious and local but not overly fancy, and the beer will be excellent. The music you’ll hear is the music we love—all killer no filler.

Do I have to dance?

Yes.
